Charlotte Edwards, the England Womens captain, delivered a development session to HCBCA coaches with an overall theme of coaching girls to play cricket.

Charlotte, a current HCBCA member, led an entertaining session at Godmanchester Town Cricket Club, with support from Michael Kay the England & Wales Regional Womens Development Manager, also another HCBCA member, on Friday 9 April 2010.

The beneficiaries were ten players from the Huntingdonshire Girls Under 11

Peter Such Spin Bowling Event

31 HCBCA Coaches received an entertaining masterclass from the former England off-spinner, Peter Such at Stanground College.

The first session concentrated on batting initially getting the batsmen to use their feet, hitting over the top and along the ground, and then working on various sweep and paddle shots.

Peter, now the ECB Lead for Spin Bowling Development, had the services of batsman and spin bowlers from last year s Under 11 and 12 squads and went through various practical drills.

On the spin bowling front, Peter placed great emphasis on alignment of hips, shoulders and feet with each bowler practising spin in the delivery position by spinning the ball from their bowling hand to the other hand.

He went on to talk about the run-up concentrating on the bowler having as straight a run-up as possible and finishing face-on to the batsman in a catching position. The audience was left in no doubt that bowlers were spin bowlers not slow bowlers and Peter was keen to stress that the art of coaching spin came before working on accuracy.
